A reporter asked: During this year's "National Day" holiday, the mainland's cultural and tourism market continued to boom. Taiwan's tourism industry, however, lost the mainland tourist market due to obstruction by the DPP authorities, and its recovery has been slow. Tourism operators on the island have said that in the past, mainland tourists visiting Taiwan brought substantial dividends, but now they can only "see it but not taste it." What is your comment on this?

Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated that according to statistics, during this year's National Day holiday, domestic trips reached 826 million person-times, with total spending of 738.375 billion yuan, increasing by 6.3% and 4.3% respectively compared with the same period last year.

Compatriots on both sides of the strait are one family. We have consistently actively promoted cross-strait tourism exchanges and cooperation, and hope that compatriots on both sides will visit each other more often and frequently, draw closer to each other, and enhance fraternal friendship.

Mainland residents traveling to Taiwan once greatly boosted the development of Taiwan's tourism-related industries, enhanced the interests and well-being of grassroots people and the industry on the island, and also promoted mutual understanding and identification between compatriots on both sides, harmonizing fraternal feelings.

However, for some time now, the DPP authorities have placed political self-interest above the people's livelihood and well-being, completely ignored the voices and demands of Taiwan's tourism operators and the general public, and deliberately set up obstacles and cards to interfere with and obstruct cross-strait tourism exchanges, resulting in weak recovery of Taiwan's tourism industry and serious damage to the interests of the relevant industry and the public.

The DPP authorities should change course, conform to public opinion, remove the obstructions and restrictions on cross-strait personnel exchanges and tourism exchange cooperation, and restore mainland residents' travel to the island as soon as possible. Otherwise, they will only be opposed and abandoned by more and more Taiwan people.
