Hit by high interest rates and market turmoil that dampened investor demand, data center operator AirTrunk has postponed its planned real estate investment trust (REIT) initial public offering in Singapore to next year. The Sydney-based company, which is backed by Blackstone Group LP, had originally planned to launch a roadshow in October to gauge investor interest in a US$1.5 billion IPO. AirTrunk had considered setting the REIT's yield at around 6% to attract investors; however, a U.S. rate hike in September, combined with market expectations that rates would continue to rise, led the company to shelve its listing arrangements. Dow Jones Newswires was the first to report the IPO delay.
AirTrunk is yet another AI-related company to pause its public market debut. Last week, Firmus, an AI cloud provider backed by Nvidia, cancelled its IPO, which had been expected to become Australia's largest initial public offering in nearly 30 years. Investors rejected its US$30.6 billion target valuation: the company has a thin track record in data center operations and carries heavy debt, making the valuation appear inflated. The data center unit of Philippine telecom giant PLDT also announced last week that, due to rising interest rates, it would postpone the country's first REIT listing to next year.
