On the evening of April 2, ahead of World Autism Awareness Day, Walmart China and the Shenzhen One Foundation jointly announced the relaunch of the "Big Dreamer Workplace Fulfillment Plan." This year, the program will continue to deepen community integration services. Following its implementation in Beijing, Chengdu, Kunming, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, it will expand to Sam's Club and Walmart stores in Guangzhou and Fuzhou. The initiative aims to provide more youth with intellectual disabilities (referred to as "youth with special needs") with diverse vocational experiences and create meaningful social opportunities for their families through various community activities.
Shane Duanzhi, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Walmart China, stated that over its 30 years in China, Walmart has been committed to exploring diverse ways to serve and give back to the community. The "Big Dreamer Plan" is a long-term philanthropic project through which Walmart hopes to collaborate with all sectors of society to build a comprehensive lifelong service system for youth with special needs and their families. This system focuses on "family support, community integration, and career development," helping these individuals integrate into the community and access broader opportunities. This vision aligns closely with the theme of the 2026 World Autism Awareness Day: "Enhancing Lifelong Service Provision, Focusing on Support for Autistic Families and Adult Services."
To date, the program has provided store internship opportunities to over 530 youth with special needs and has invited more than 2,500 participants—including youth, their parents, employment coaches, and volunteers—to take part in seminars, skill-building workshops, and community integration activities.
