Daqing Oilfield's Natural Gas Output Marks 15 Years of Sustained Growth

Deep News01-13

Natural gas development has achieved success across multiple fronts, with coordinated efforts to tap into and expand resources within the Songliao base area and to efficiently build production capacity in the Daqing Sichuan-Chongqing exploration block, leading to rapid annual growth in gas output. In 2025, Daqing Oilfield's natural gas production surged to 6.1 billion cubic meters, achieving 15 consecutive years of stable growth.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Daqing Oilfield's natural gas industry demonstrated robust momentum: it successfully surpassed the new threshold of 6 billion cubic meters, becoming PetroChina's fourth-largest gas producing region. Bolstered by significant developments in the Sichuan-Chongqing area, it is now growing at an annual rate exceeding 500 million cubic meters, outlining a new vision for high-quality development and injecting strong "gas power" into national energy security and regional economic and social development.

This milestone breakthrough is attributed to the precise implementation of the overall strategy of "stabilizing Songliao, accelerating Sichuan-Chongqing, and efficiently building storage," successfully establishing a new coordinated development pattern of "a stable Songliao old area and a growing new southwestern area." Among these, the Songliao base remains a solid cornerstone, achieving an output of 5 billion cubic meters; the Daqing Sichuan-Chongqing exploration block, as a strategic new area, saw its annual output exceed 1 billion cubic meters, becoming a major growth driver.

Technological breakthroughs have provided the core driving force for the production increase. Faced with complex geological conditions and production enhancement demands, Daqing Oilfield has continuously strengthened the research and application of key technologies, including deep potential tapping and cost-effective utilization in Songliao, integrated evaluation and production construction for various reservoir types in Sichuan-Chongqing, and the construction and operational optimization of gas storage facilities.

In the Songliao old area, internal infill adjustments were conducted for the first time, along with ongoing exploration of technologies for the profitable production increase of tight gas, and the effective recovery of associated gas from shale oil and other scattered gas sources. In the Daqing Sichuan-Chongqing exploration block, techniques such as fine-tuning production from old wells and innovative testing and production of exploration wells have been employed to fully unlock production potential, supporting the rapid output increase.

As one of the main forces for natural gas production and development in the Songliao base area, the Gas Production Branch has continuously explored and practiced comprehensive management technologies for low-yield and low-efficiency wells, forming 8 comprehensive technical series covering reservoirs, wellbores, and surface facilities, supported by 32 process technologies, achieving integrated management and three-dimensional potential tapping. Compared to the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the number of wells undergoing remedial measures has nearly doubled, the incremental gas from these measures has quadrupled, and for the first time exceeded 100 million cubic meters, reaching a historical peak.

The Natural Gas Branch has achieved stable production of one million tons of natural gas liquids for 9 consecutive years, with natural gas gathering and transmission exceeding 5 billion cubic meters for 3 consecutive years, and has won the oilfield company's "Safe Production, Civilized Production" gold medal for 31 consecutive years. It is vigorously advancing the "three autonomies" intelligent construction, expanding from pipeline networks to equipment, concentrating advantages to make breakthroughs in new areas like shale oil, Sichuan-Chongqing, and new energy, and efficiently promoting the construction and commissioning of major capacity projects such as the Wusheng Purification Plant, the Shale Oil Central Station, and the third phase of the Xushen 9 project, striving to achieve the goal of "leapfrog growth in natural gas and natural gas liquids" to build momentum for future development.

The distant Chongqing Branch in the southwest, serving as the "main force" for production increase in Sichuan-Chongqing, has achieved "seven consecutive years of growth" in output since its establishment. They have deepened the integration of exploration and development, innovated models for scattered gas recovery, accelerated the conversion of exploration wells to production wells, and successively built 20 skid-mounted stations, increasing the proportion of scattered gas recovery sales to 76.08%, making it an important growth pole for natural gas production increase in Sichuan-Chongqing.

Gas storage facilities are also known as the "underground granaries" for ensuring stable natural gas supply. In recent years, China's first underground gas storage facility, the Lamadian Gas Storage, implemented well and station hazard management and optimized injection/production operations, achieving over 50 years of continuous safe and stable production, with cumulative gas injection and withdrawal exceeding 5.3 billion cubic meters.

The Sizhan Gas Storage, by implementing the principle of "zoning and classification, one well one policy," optimized injection and production allocation, fully releasing the capacity of gas wells, and reached its designed capacity in just two injection/withdrawal cycles, setting the domestic record for the fastest capacity achievement for a reservoir-type gas storage facility. Building on this, construction has begun on the country's first volcanic rock gas storage facility, further enhancing peak-shaving and supply assurance capabilities.
