Tongzhou District's agricultural sector is reporting strong results for the first half of the year, highlighted by rigorous quality control and a thriving green organic farming industry. At the Beijing Wucai Tianyuan Planting Cooperative in Lucheng Town, summer vegetables like corn, cucumbers, and colorful watermelons are entering the peak harvest season.
Relying on strict organic standards and full-process quality management, the 300-mu (approximately 50-acre) ecological base has achieved abundant yields. Its flagship product, Wucai Yuanye radish, has earned the prestigious national "Special Agricultural Product" designation, serving as a vivid example of Tongzhou's deep commitment to safe, green, and organic agriculture.
Since the start of 2026, Tongzhou District has strictly followed the work plans of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Municipal Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center. The focus has been on a dual approach: ensuring quality is "produced" and "managed." Efforts have been concentrated on supervision, green certification, and quality upgrades, resulting in notable achievements in the first half of the year.
Where to Focus Initial Efforts
Quality monitoring is the key to safeguarding the bottom line of agricultural product safety. In the first half of this year, Tongzhou conducted routine supervision and sampling inspections. To date, the district has tested over 10,000 agricultural product samples, achieving a comprehensive pass rate of 99.76%. This precise regulation reinforces the safety of the food supply.
While maintaining strict quality standards, the district is also accelerating the expansion of green and organic product certifications. Targeted efforts are being made to cultivate distinctive, high-quality agricultural brands. Lucheng Town has been recommended as a pilot area for the full-town transformation to green and organic farming methods. The district is strengthening promotional guidance for green and organic certification and gradually building a comprehensive support system for production, services, and brand marketing.
Reasons for the 51,400-Ton Target
The district's annual target for green and organic agricultural product output is 51,400 tons. Currently, there are 48 certified green and organic product entities, with a cumulative certified output of approximately 40,000 tons. The certified products cover a wide range, including popular items like cabbage, tomatoes, and corn, as well as specialty melons and fruits.
To help business entities upgrade and improve, Tongzhou has implemented a "one-on-one" dedicated service. Officials proactively engage with various agricultural producers, offering hands-on guidance on certification processes and standardized planting techniques. This precision approach helps solve certification challenges as the district pushes to meet its annual green and organic output target.
Leading the Way in Green Organic Standards
As a benchmark entity in Tongzhou's green organic agricultural development, the Beijing Wucai Tianyuan Planting Cooperative has distinguished itself through its standardized and ecological farming model. Founded in 2008, the cooperative produces over 800 tons of high-quality fruits and vegetables annually. Its facilities are well-equipped with modern agricultural technology, including intelligent environmental monitoring and integrated water and fertilizer systems. Advanced techniques such as vertical hanging vine cultivation and green pest control are also employed.
"We adhere to organic production standards throughout the entire process—no chemical pesticides, no forced ripening. We improve soil with organic fertilizer and control pests using green technologies. Our goal is to ensure every product is healthy and of high quality," said Zhang Xifen, the cooperative's head. The base has already obtained vegetable organic certification, GAP certification, and full-process agricultural standardization certification. It is a municipal-level demonstration base for organic vegetable technology integration. Its "Wucai Yuanye" brand of fruits and vegetables is widely recognized for its safety and quality. In May of this year, the cooperative's specialty product, Wucai Yuanye radish, was included in the first batch of the 2026 National Special Agricultural Products List, adding another prestigious name to Tongzhou's high-quality agricultural product lineup.
Building on this strong start to the year, Tongzhou District has outlined its work plan for the second half of 2026. The focus will be on "high standards, high technology, high quality, and high efficiency." The district will establish a full-chain quality and safety system for vegetables. This includes integrating high-quality production and quality control resources to create a number of core demonstration bases for safe, fresh vegetables. These bases will feature green pest control, safe production, and smart supervision, gradually building a complete green organic agricultural industry, service, and brand marketing system. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance the overall quality, safety, and brand competitiveness of the district's agricultural products.
