COMEC Shares Surge Over 5% in Afternoon Trade Backed by 73.4 Billion Yuan Order Backlog

COMEC (00317) climbed more than 6% during intraday trading, and by the time of writing, the stock had gained 5.16% to HK$13.25, with turnover reaching HK$98.99 million. According to data from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, China's shipbuilding completion volume in the first half of 2026 reached 36.5 million deadweight tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 51.2%, accounting for 62.2% of the global total. New orders received amounted to 121.06 million deadweight tonnes, surging 173.1% year-on-year, representing 82.3% of the global market share. Orders on hand totalled 363.25 million deadweight tonnes, up 54.9% year-on-year, holding a 71.2% global share.

On the ship price front, the global new ship price index stood at 186.34 points in August, up 0.46% month-on-month and 1.11% higher than at the start of the year, continuously validating the industry's high prosperity. In the first half of this year, COMEC recorded net profit attributable to shareholders of 840 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 59%. This corresponds to a single-quarter net profit of 440 million yuan in the second quarter, representing a 29% year-on-year increase and an 11% quarter-on-quarter rise.

The company currently holds shipbuilding orders on hand worth 73.4 billion yuan, encompassing 173 vessels and one offshore engineering unit, totalling 6.28 million deadweight tonnes. Shenwan Hongyuan notes that the company continues to benefit from the booming shipbuilding sector, with ample orders on hand and a steady stream of high-value-added vessel orders materialising.
