Deep News08-26

Cnooc Limited has officially initiated legal proceedings following the discovery of fraudulent activities conducted under its name.

On August 26, the company issued a formal statement via its official WeChat account, warning the public about criminals who, without any authorization, have been impersonating the company's corporate identity and brand image. These individuals have created counterfeit websites and illegal mobile applications, falsely claiming to represent Cnooc Limited while engaging in suspected fraudulent business operations.

The statement exposed the download links for the fraudulent "Sea Oil Mall" app and urged the public to refrain from registering or making any payments through it. Those who have already suffered losses were advised to report the matter to the police immediately. Cnooc Limited also confirmed that it has begun legal proceedings and reserved all rights to pursue legal responsibility for these unlawful acts.

According to the company's official profile, Cnooc Limited is a state-owned enterprise established on February 15, 1982, with approval from the State Council. It operates as China's largest offshore oil and gas producer, with a registered capital of 113.8 billion yuan and five listed subsidiaries both domestically and overseas. The company ranked 65th on the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list and has consistently achieved top performance indicators among central state-owned enterprises, receiving an A-grade evaluation from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission for 22 consecutive years.
