On the evening of May 14th, footage from state broadcaster CCTV revealed the presence of several prominent Chinese entrepreneurs at a welcome banquet for U.S. President Trump. According to the video, Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk and NVIDIA (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang were seated at the same table as Chinese business leaders including Hisense (000921) Chairman Jia Shaoqian, Lens Technology Chairman Zhou Qunfei, Wanxiang Group Chairman Lu Weiding, and Fuyao Glass Chairman Cao Hui.
Also in attendance at the May 14th event were Air China Chairman Liu Tiexiang and COMAC Chairman He Dongfeng. They shared a table with Boeing (BA) President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, who was part of President Trump's visiting delegation, and GE Aerospace Chairman and CEO Larry Culp.
Boeing's last major aircraft procurement deal with China dates back to 2017 during a previous visit by President Trump. COMAC and Boeing previously established a joint venture, the Zhoushan Boeing Completion Center, which is responsible for interior installation, painting, and delivery of 737 MAX aircraft.
During the banquet, Xiaomi (01810) Chairman and CEO Lei Jun initiated a selfie with Elon Musk using a Xiaomi smartphone. In the footage, Musk is initially seen seated at the table looking elsewhere. Lei Jun approaches, taps Musk on the shoulder, and the two shake hands after Musk turns around. Following the handshake, Lei Jun, smiling, stands nearby before taking out his phone to suggest a photo. The two then took a picture together, with Musk playfully cooperating and making a wink at the camera.
