Wang Zimu Discusses Ice and Snow Economy: Expresses Concern Over Skiing's Focus on Changbai Mountain, Urges Hometown to Adopt Refined Management

Deep News03-17

At the 2026 Yabuli Forum Annual Meeting held from March 17 to 19 in Yabuli, Heilongjiang, Wang Zimu, founder and former chairman of Huatai Insurance Group and chairman of the Yongxu Natural Resources Protection Foundation, shared his views on the ice and snow economy during a dedicated session. As a native of Heilongjiang, Wang expressed strong hopes for the robust development of the province's ice and snow economy, particularly its ski resorts.

Wang noted that while he began his journey in this region, he has gradually observed Heilongjiang falling behind in this sector. He mentioned hearing that five of the nation's top ten ski resorts are located in Jilin, raising concerns about an old saying: "Investment does not cross Shanhaiguan, and skiing does not cross Changbai Mountain." He emphasized that large ski resorts are now emerging further south in Northeast China and even in southern regions, urging his hometown of Heilongjiang to prioritize the ice and snow economy with refined management.

Wang also highlighted that Heilongjiang remains suitable for hosting skiing events even when conditions are unfavorable in the south. He expressed a desire for people to appreciate ski resorts not only in winter but also in summer, though winter should remain the preferred season.
