D-Wave Recognized as Quantum Computing Leader by IDC, Gaining Authority on Commercialization Path

Deep News07-09 23:00

D-Wave Quantum has recently received a double dose of positive news. The company has been named one of the global leaders in quantum computing by the IDC MarketScape, while its CEO Alan Baratz emphasized the firm's focus on commercial growth, driving quantum computing from the lab into the daily operations of businesses.

D-Wave is one of only two quantum computing companies rated as leaders in the report. IDC highlighted D-Wave's strength in its extensive production deployment capabilities, noting that customer activities have progressed from research experiments to real-world production processes in sectors such as manufacturing, telecommunications, retail, logistics, and defense. According to company disclosures, its systems have processed over 200 million problem submissions, with usage of its Advantage2 system increasing by 314% year-over-year and usage of its Stride hybrid solver growing by 114% in six months. Public implementation examples include manufacturing scheduling with Ford Otosan, network optimization with NTT DOCOMO, and workforce scheduling collaboration with Pattison Food Group.

The IDC MarketScape also acknowledged D-Wave's maturity in enterprise accessibility and its hybrid adoption framework. Its tools, including the Leap cloud platform, Ocean SDK, and Stride hybrid solver, enable businesses to tackle optimization problems involving up to 2 million variables without requiring specialized quantum programming knowledge. Concurrently, D-Wave is expanding its quantum annealing technology from the optimization field into the direction of scientific simulation.

On the commercialization front, D-Wave previously signed a two-year, $10 million Quantum Computing as a Service agreement with a Fortune 100 company, a significant marker that quantum computing is entering the daily production operations of enterprises. CEO Alan Baratz stated that quantum computing must solve real problems and deliver real value for real customers. Over 100 commercial, governmental, and research organizations have now adopted D-Wave's technology, with the company's clientele including prominent firms such as Ford and NTT DOCOMO.
