Byd Company Limited's Fast-Charging Vehicles Prioritized at Some Stations, Grid Operator Explains Dynamic Power Allocation

Recent social media posts from users indicate that when charging at fast-charging stations, their vehicles experience a significant drop in charging power, reportedly due to the presence of Byd Company Limited vehicles initiating fast-charging sessions. Numerous other users have commented, sharing similar experiences.

As of the time of writing, Byd Company Limited has not issued an official response. A customer service representative for the company stated they could not find any related information on the matter.

When consulted, a customer service representative for the State Grid's charging service explained the operational logic behind some direct current fast-charging piles. When multiple electric vehicles are connected, these charging stations dynamically adjust the actual charging current allocated to each vehicle based on the current demand feedback from the vehicles themselves. This ensures the rational distribution and utilization of the charging pile's total power capacity. In practice, this means a charging pile may prioritize allocating a larger share of current to a vehicle that first signals a higher demand, such as one initiating a fast-charging protocol.

The representative confirmed that if a Byd Company Limited vehicle requests a higher current than other connected vehicles, it could indeed receive prioritized current allocation. Furthermore, during specific peak electricity consumption periods, some charging stations may proactively reduce their output power to ensure grid stability, which can also lead to a decrease in available charging power for all users.

The客服 stated that, regarding this perceived "current grabbing" situation, there is currently no optimal solution available.
