JD.com's Richard Liu Criticizes Paid Review Models, Vows Non-Commercialization, and Expands Coffee Chain with 5 Weekly Openings

Deep News11-17

At the third "JD Wine Tasting Event" held at the Rosewood Sanya, JD.com's founder and chairman Richard Liu personally cooked two signature dishes from Suqian—"Rolled Pancake with Spicy Fish" and "Stir-Fried Eggs with Fermented Soybeans"—while reminiscing about his childhood connection to fishermen and aquatic food sources.

During the event, Liu announced the official launch of JD.com's standalone food delivery app, addressing earlier user difficulties in locating the service within JD's main app. "Many users couldn’t find our delivery entry initially, so we’ve now separated JD Delivery into its own app for convenience," he explained.

Liu also unveiled two new products: "JD Reviews" and "JD True Rankings," taking aim at paid review models in the dining industry. "While profit-seeking is understandable for businesses, monetizing user reviews undermines authenticity," he asserted. "Once rankings become commercialized, fairness disappears—bad money drives out good." He pledged that JD’s review platforms would remain non-commercial to ensure impartiality.

The AI-powered "JD Reviews" aggregates millions of data points on restaurants, hotels, and attractions, while "JD True Rankings" offers categorized listings tailored to consumer preferences. Liu emphasized that users can customize review styles to match their tastes.

In a personal aside, Liu praised Rosewood Hotels, his and wife Zhang Zetian’s preferred choice during their global travels over the past 12 years, citing its "artistic elegance and quality."

JD also introduced its fresh milk-based coffee brand, "7Fresh Coffee," currently expanding in Beijing at a rate of 3–5 new stores weekly, with plans to cover the city by year-end. Liu highlighted its nationwide franchise ambitions, aiming to elevate coffee consumption standards.
