Semiconductor Stocks Show Signs of Overvaluation, Uptrend May Be Unsustainable

According to Seaport Research, following a parabolic surge in April and early May, semiconductor stocks have advanced beyond their fundamental valuations.

Analyst Jay Goldberg noted on Monday, "We anticipate near-term volatility in the semiconductor market. While the long-term AI trend remains a significant driver, we observe that many stocks have moved ahead of their underlying fundamentals."

He further explained, "AMD and Intel have solid opportunities to gradually align with and meet performance expectations, but NVIDIA continues to face challenges from elevated expectations and significant supply constraints."

Semiconductor stocks had soared due to market demand for CPUs and memory chips. Chip shortages have bolstered profit margins within the sector, raising concerns among hyperscalers like Apple and Google about their input costs.

Stocks such as Micron, AMD, and Intel began retreating from their recent peaks early last week.
