According to an announcement from the official WeChat account "WeChat Open Course" on the evening of January 20, the number of times global cross-border and overseas users utilize Mini Programs is projected to surpass 5 billion in 2025. WeChat Mini Program services have now expanded to cover 100 countries and regions worldwide. Concurrently, WeChat's cross-border payment service has reached 78 countries and regions, supporting transactions in 36 different currencies. In the second half of 2025, the total transaction volume processed through Mini Programs is expected to increase by over 70% year-on-year.
Official data indicates that the transaction volume from Chinese outbound users via Mini Programs grew by 60% year-on-year. User profiling reveals that, alongside the younger demographic as the primary driver, the 35-55 age group has demonstrated substantial consumption potential and decision-making power. In terms of usage scenarios, transportation-related Mini Programs saw their average monthly transaction count surge by more than 140%, while food and beverage services experienced growth exceeding 50%. Mini Program services now span across 108 distinct sub-sectors.
Regionally, rapid growth was observed in multiple areas including Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, and France. Malaysia witnessed a dramatic spike of over 90% in its average monthly transaction count, Singapore saw an increase of more than 80%, and Italy experienced an explosive surge of over 300% in its average monthly transaction value.
Overseas local users are increasingly embracing Mini Programs, with their transaction volume growing 70% year-on-year. Simultaneously, the transaction volume from inbound users utilizing Mini Programs also rose by 50% compared to the previous year.
Regarding payments for overseas users, WeChat stated that it supports direct payments within Mini Programs using international credit cards like Visa and Mastercard, as well as local e-wallets such as PayNow and BOC Macau.
Furthermore, WeChat Pay has introduced a "Social Rebates" feature. This mechanism, which includes friend assistance and spend-based cashback rewards, helps merchants convert each transaction into a new source of traffic growth, significantly enhancing the efficiency of acquiring new customers.
