Bitcoin ETFs End Inflow Streak as Fed Rate Concerns Mount
Heavy outflows from US-listed Bitcoin exchange-traded funds late last week underscored the fragility of the token’s recent recovery. The ETFs in the spot market saw more than $465 million of outflows on July 23 and July 24, snapping a seven-session inflow streak, as concerns that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates overshadowed recent momentum behind the Clarity Act, a long-awaited US cryptocurrency market-structure bill.
Shifting developments in the Middle East have added to Bitcoin’s volatility in recent days. The original cryptocurrency climbed back above $65,000 on Monday, rising as much as 1.4% alongside other risk assets. It later pared some of its gains and was trading up around 1% at 6:20 a.m. in New York.
“We expect macro-driven uncertainty to persist this week, but our outlook on Bitcoin remains structurally bullish,” said Ivan Lim, a senior derivatives trader at FalconX. “The recent Bitcoin ETF outflows and fragile mood are largely a reaction to legislative waiting around the Clarity Act and faster Fed rate hike expectations.”
Bitmine Nears Goal of Controlling 5% of Ethereum Supply With $11.8 Billion Treasury
Crypto treasury firm BitMine Immersion Technologies said Sunday it has increased its Ethereum holdings to 5.79 million ETH, bringing its combined crypto holdings, cash, marketable securities, and strategic investments to $11.8 billion as it moves closer to its goal of acquiring 5% of Ethereum's total supply.
According to the company, it now holds 5.8 million ETH, 208 Bitcoin, worth approximately $13.6 million, $268 million in cash and marketable securities, a $180 million stake in Mr Beast’s Beast Industries, and a $61 million investment in Eightco Holdings.
Circle Buys IBM Blockchain Patent Estate—And Becomes America's Biggest Holder
Circle—the company behind USDC (the digital dollar used by millions worldwide for payments, savings, and international transfers)—just bought the blockchain patent library IBM spent more than a decade building. The deal, announced July 27, hands Circle over 1,000 blockchain patents issued by IBM worldwide.
Patents are legal rights that give the holder exclusive control over a specific invention. If you hold a patent on a method for processing transactions on a blockchain—the shared digital ledger where crypto activity is permanently recorded and can't be altered—you get to decide who else uses it and on what terms. IBM had been building that kind of leverage since its mid-2010s enterprise blockchain push.
By December 2025, patent analytics firm PatSnap credited IBM with 790 U.S. blockchain patents—more than any other American company, with Bank of America a distant second at roughly 200. Circle, which received its first-ever patent in December 2023 (covering parallel blockchain data processing—a technique for verifying multiple groups of transactions simultaneously), went from essentially zero to the top of the U.S. rankings overnight.
