Alphabet's Google is redesigning its iconic search bar and introducing new artificial intelligence programming tools, marking the latest steps in its multi-billion dollar initiative to expand its influence in the AI era.
Google has overhauled the search box to better handle longer, more complex queries that users might pose to a chatbot. The company also plans to upgrade its search engine with AI agents to assist users in tracking topics of interest, making reservations, and monitoring health metrics, among other tasks. Some of these features will initially be available exclusively to paid subscribers.
The focus on AI is "lighting up every corner of the company," CEO Sundar Pichai stated during a speech at the annual developer conference in Mountain View, California, on Tuesday. "All this continuous delivery, the rapid pace of technological advancement—it's a period of incredible momentum."
At Tuesday's event, Google unveiled several new tools designed for developers to utilize AI for writing code and managing agents. The company also released a new version of its flagship AI model, Gemini 3.5 Flash, which it described as its most capable model for programming tasks to date.
