Xiuning County: Qiyun Mountain's Cultural Tourism Innovations Boost Winter Travel

Deep News12-11

Since November, the Qiyun Mountain Eco-Cultural Tourism Resort in Xiuning County has launched a series of innovative cultural and tourism products under three themes—"Warm-Colored Canvases, Warm-Fun Experiences, and Warm-Glow Sparks"—transforming the off-season into a peak experience period and successfully revitalizing winter tourism consumption.

**Warm-Colored Canvases: Encountering the "Art Road"** This winter, Qiyun Mountain presents a "painting-like" colorful landscape. The mountain is adorned with red maples, yellow apricots, emerald bamboo, and golden firs, complementing the Danxia cliffs and the moonlit streets with white walls and black tiles. Along the Hengjiang River, a once-abandoned road has been transformed into a vibrant "Art Road." Over 700 meters of roadside are lined with thousands of fiery-red metasequoias, resembling an honor guard. Dozens of photography and oil painting works hang from branches, creating a "forest gallery" where nature and art intertwine. More than 20 installations, including 3D murals, graffiti art, and modern sculptures, add a trendy touch.

"This 'Color Corridor' has become a trending social media hotspot this winter, attracting young tourists seeking 'seasonal aesthetics' and 'photo-worthy moments,'" said a representative from Qiyunshan Town.

**Warm-Fun Experiences: Creating "Leisure Buzz"** The resort has regularized the "Qiyun Xiaoyao Street" cultural performances from the National Day holiday, offering 50 interactive performances across 100+ scenarios. Visitors to Qiyun Town feel transported to an ancient marketplace, immersed in lively interactions. Dozens of NPC actors showcase traditional skills like dance, acrobatics, swordplay, and flash mobs. At the "Xiaoyao Fairy Gathering," tourists engage in games such as "Pawnshop Auctions," "Live Blessings," and "Mystic Ball Array," earning in-game silver notes.

Additionally, the resort leverages events to energize winter tourism. On November 3, the National Health Qigong Finals and Dan Ranking Competition took place against Qiyun Mountain’s Danxia cliffs. From November 21–23, the "Hui Charm • Autumn Colors" art sketching event brought oil painters to create amidst the mountains. On December 6–7, the National School Checkers League Finals gathered nearly 300 young players for intellectual and social exchanges.

**Warm-Glow Sparks: Illuminating the "Intangible Heritage Night"** As night falls, Qiyun Mountain’s "heat" peaks with intangible cultural heritage (ICH) performances. At the visitor center, artisans fling molten iron into the air, creating dazzling sparks that light up the cold night sky, drawing cheers from the crowd. Over a dozen ICH displays—including dreamy fish lantern parades, mysterious Nuo opera, and fiery charcoal dances—turn the resort into a radiant wonderland.

"Despite the cold, the ICH night shows are exhilarating and spectacular," said Mr. Su from Hefei.

By tapping into winter resources, Qiyun Mountain attracts visitors with "warm tones," retains them with "warm experiences," and ignites consumption with "hot events." Since November, the resort has welcomed 286,000 visitors, a 35.65% year-on-year increase, setting a record high.

"In December, we introduced free entry for Anhui residents and complimentary access to Qiyun Xiaoyao Street. Market response has far exceeded expectations, with a new tourism peak anticipated by mid-month," said the resort’s marketing head.
