At 18:27 on September 27, the first concrete pouring (FCD) for the nuclear island of Unit 2 of the Guangxi Nuclear Power Bailong Nuclear Power Project, owned by State Power Investment Corporation, commenced, marking the transition of the Bailong Nuclear Power Phase I project from single-unit construction to the new stage of comprehensive dual-unit construction.

The FCD for Unit 2 of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project adopted a single-side push-type continuous one-time integrated pouring method, with approximately 6,637 cubic meters of concrete planned to be poured over about 58 hours. In response to the multiple overlapping construction difficulties, including the large bottom slab size, irregular shape, and the great difficulty of temperature control and curing, the project team prepared a special construction plan in advance and implemented comprehensive safeguard measures.

The single-side push pouring path and process parameters were optimized, with the owner, supervisor, and general contractor conducting full-process on-site supervision. Source temperature control measures such as low-heat cement, raw material cooling, and strict control of the mold entry temperature were adopted, combined with an intelligent temperature measurement system for real-time monitoring of temperature differences and a combined curing process of film mulching for moisture retention plus dynamic temperature control to improve the crack resistance of the concrete. Relying on the smart engineering platform for coordinated scheduling, staff worked in shifts to ensure the smooth and orderly progress of continuous concrete pouring.

The Bailong Nuclear Power Project is a landmark project for Guangxi's construction of a national comprehensive energy security guarantee zone. It is located at the southernmost tip of Jiangshan Peninsula in Fangchenggang City and is planned to include two CAP1000 nuclear power units and four "Guohe No. 1" units, with a total installed capacity of about 8.5 million kilowatts and a total investment of about 120 billion yuan. Units 1 and 2 of Phase I adopt CAP1000 third-generation passive nuclear power technology, with a single-unit capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts. Unit 1 achieved FCD in December 2025 and has now entered the construction and installation stage, and it is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2030.

After the Phase I project of the Bailong Nuclear Power Project is completed and put into operation, its annual power generation will be about 20 billion kilowatt-hours, and it can reduce standard coal consumption by about 6 million tons per year, cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 16 million tons, sulfur dioxide by about 52,000 tons, and nitrogen oxides by about 45,000 tons. The emission reduction effect is equivalent to planting about 44,000 hectares of broad-leaved forest, and it will play a positive role in optimizing Guangxi's energy structure and promoting energy conservation and emission reduction.
