Inverse Nikkei ETF Surges Over 2% Amid Rising Japanese Bond Yields and U.S. Treasury Focus on Market Stability

Stock News05-14

The inverse Nikkei ETF (07515) rose more than 2% in the afternoon session, trading at HK$16.82 with a turnover of HK$3.9987 million. The increase follows a surge in Japan's 30-year government bond yield, which climbed 10 basis points to 3.915%, its highest level since 1999, driven by renewed inflation concerns from the Middle East situation and expectations of a Bank of Japan rate hike. Both the Nikkei 225 and TOPIX indices closed down 1% today. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has completed her visit to Japan, during which she did not meet with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda. Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki stated that he discussed market trends, including exchange rate movements, with Yellen, who expressed "full understanding" of Japan's currency intervention policies. Nomura Securities views Yellen's trip as primarily focused on the risk of excessive volatility in Japanese bond and yen markets spreading to global financial markets.
