According to individuals with knowledge of the matter, Meta Platforms Inc. (META.US) has entered into a new agreement with data center developer Crusoe to secure large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) computing resources from several of Crusoe's facilities, supporting the company's ongoing AI strategy expansion.
The sources indicate Meta has contracted to purchase computing capacity from Crusoe data centers located in Childress, Texas, and Warrenton, Missouri. The total compute power secured by Meta across these two projects is reportedly approximately 1.6 gigawatts (GW). The individuals requested anonymity as the negotiations are not public. Specific financial terms of the deal and the timeline for the delivery of these computing resources were not disclosed by the sources. Representatives for both Meta and Crusoe declined to comment on the matter.

However, Crusoe has encountered challenges during its expansion. Crusoe disclosed earlier this month that it currently has 4.9 GW of data center capacity under contract, with a total project pipeline exceeding 40 GW. This includes both projects with signed leases and those in advanced discussions or development stages. Its contracted projects include the Abilene, Texas campus serving Oracle and OpenAI, as well as projects for Microsoft. Local media has also reported that Crusoe's third data center project near Amarillo, Texas, has been leased by Google. Last week, Crusoe noted that two other data center projects in Texas and Missouri have secured tenants, though it did not name the specific customers.
