Market Surges at Closing Bell Following Major Software Sector Announcement

Deep News16:11

A significant development in the domestic software industry triggered a dramatic turnaround in China's A-share market during the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, reversing earlier losses and showcasing remarkable resilience.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index managed to close in positive territory, gaining 0.19%, while the Shenzhen Component Index declined 0.56% and the ChiNext Index slipped 0.93%. Market breadth was mixed, with 2,121 stocks advancing and 80 hitting their daily limit-up, while 3,292 stocks declined.

Agricultural stocks led the rally with nearly 20 companies surging to their daily limit, including Shennong Seed Industry, Dunhuang Seed Industry, and Nongfa Seed Industry. The surge followed a warning from JPMorgan analysts who cautioned that a global food crisis could be brewing, potentially erupting as early as next year. The bank's report, titled "Food Security is National Security: A Perfect Storm," identified five key drivers 鈥?war, weather, warehousing, water, and waste 鈥?noting that Middle East conflicts disrupting Hormuz Strait shipping, combined with potential crop failures from a strong El Ni帽o, could keep food prices elevated through the first half of 2027.

Oil and gas-related stocks also performed well, with Sinopec Machinery hitting its daily limit. On the downside, computing power leasing stocks faced pressure with Cityland Xiangjiang hitting its daily limit-down, while film and television companies struggled, with Beijing Culture falling over 9%.

The late-session recovery was primarily attributed to a surge in domestic software and information technology innovation stocks. Chengmai Technology recorded a sharp 20-centimeter limit-up in the afternoon, with Kylinsec, China Software, and Orient Zhongke also hitting their daily limits. Market participants responded to circulating news about a Windows operating system development, interpreting it as a positive catalyst for domestic operating system alternatives, prompting a broad rally across related sectors.

As trading concluded, market watchers now look ahead to Thursday's session, hoping the positive momentum from the closing rally can carry forward into the next trading day.
