In a recent interview, He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Inc., shared his views on the future of the automotive industry. From a user's perspective, He Xiaopeng believes there should be more automakers and a wider selection of products from competitors. However, he noted that the automotive industry is extremely complex. If it were simpler, it would quickly consolidate into a dominant player, similar to the smartphone market. He drew an analogy to Apple's iPhone, stating that despite minimal changes across recent generations, Apple phones remain highly stable. He Xiaopeng explained that today, people only replace their phones when they break, not necessarily due to significant feature upgrades. In contrast, he emphasized that the automotive industry is far from reaching such a point. He believes there is still immense value in continuous innovation, even with annual R&D investments reaching 100 billion yuan.
