During a conference call following SpaceX's second-quarter earnings release, SpaceX founder Elon Musk responded to a question by stating that SpaceX and Tesla Motors are the two strongest hardware companies on Earth. "Outside of China, and perhaps including China as well," Musk noted.

Musk said that expertise accumulated from the rocket and satellite sectors will be applied to the large-scale construction of ground-based data centers. "We've found that even applying a small amount of the experience gained from building rockets to data center construction can yield significant benefits," he added.

Musk also indicated that future data centers are expected to have power supply and cooling capacity demands that far exceed current expectations. He further revealed that discussions have already taken place with Nvidia, and it is anticipated that a substantial portion of its GPU production capacity will be secured next year.
