China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) Chairman Wu Qing met with John Graham, President and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on global and Chinese economic and financial conditions, as well as investment in China's capital markets.
Chairman Wu stated that despite the complex and changing international environment, China's economy has maintained overall stable operation in the first half of the year, continuing a trend of high-quality development and demonstrating resilience and vitality. The CSRC will adhere to the principle of seeking progress while maintaining stability, resolutely safeguard the stable and healthy functioning of the capital markets, steadily expand high-level institutional opening-up, and continuously enhance the convenience for foreign capital to participate in the capital markets. He welcomed international institutional investors, including the CPPIB, to expand their investments in China and share in the dividends of China's economic and capital market reform and development.
Graham noted that as a globally-oriented long-term investment institution, the CPPIB pays close attention to and remains optimistic about the outcomes of China's economic reform and development. China has long been one of the key regions for its global investment portfolio, and the CPPIB will continue to adhere to its value investment philosophy and actively pursue investment opportunities in China.
