Recently, in the dispatch room of Guizhou Zhijin Xingfa Coal Industry Co., Ltd., Wang Guanghong, a deputy chief engineer in mining in his early thirties, lightly touched the screen, causing real-time data on fully mechanized mining to flash across the large display. Wang is a 2015 graduate of Bijie Vocational and Technical College. Over seven years, his monthly salary has risen from 3,500 yuan to 18,000 yuan. He has also led his team to reduce construction costs by 42% through gob-side entry retaining technology and generated over 8 million yuan in economic benefits using geophysical exploration technology. Wang Guanghong is one of many technical backbones cultivated under the "integrated theory and practice" philosophy at Bijie Vocational and Technical College.
As an institution selected for two rounds of Guizhou Province's "Double High Plan" for development, the college has taken the lead in making substantial investments to build a modern practical training system. Starting with the completion of a 310-meter simulated mine on campus in 2014, the college has now invested over 100 million yuan to establish a 15,000-square-meter intelligent mining industry-education integration training base in 2024, gradually moving the "hazardous underground environment" into bright classrooms. The base integrates six major systems—mining, excavation, machinery, transportation, ventilation, and safety—and incorporates intelligent equipment such as VR simulations. Furthermore, it introduces international standards through the Sino-German Rhein Intelligent Mining Industry College.
Graduates from the intelligent coal mining technology program now earn an average starting monthly salary of 8,000 yuan, which exceeds 10,000 yuan after three years, significantly shortening the talent development cycle. This innovative practice won the first prize in the 2024 Guizhou Province Teaching Achievement Awards. Beyond talent cultivation, the college is advancing into industrial challenges. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 10 vertical research projects and conducted horizontal research on coal mine disaster prevention and ecological restoration, with funding nearing 1 million yuan. These research outcomes have assisted mines like Xintian Coal Mine in becoming national-level intelligent demonstration mines.
By 2026, the Bijie City New Comprehensive Energy Technology Innovation Research Institute, with a total investment of 18 million yuan, will be established, focusing on key areas such as intelligent mining and gas control. Bijie Vocational and Technical College has become a talent training base for the upgrading of the regional energy industry.
