According to a survey of business leaders, the New York Federal Reserve's business activity index for the service sector rose to -22.6 in March, compared to -25.7 in the previous month.
The six-month business activity index decreased to 12.7 from 17.5.
The business climate index fell to -46.2 from -41.7 in the prior month.
The employment index improved to -8.5 from -9.7.
The wages index declined to 33.7 from 37.
