Many university students majoring in the humanities are proactively learning interdisciplinary skills to meet evolving market demands and unlock entirely new career paths.
At job fairs, positions at AI and tech companies are particularly popular, with some applicants coming from humanities and social sciences backgrounds. One student shared that many of his peers in the humanities are learning to code, aiming to integrate their liberal arts expertise with AI capabilities. Student Zhang Jingfu noted that a company specializing in archival work now prefers candidates with AI proficiency to boost efficiency in document sorting and collection. Student Xu Huijuan added that liberal arts graduates possess stronger creativity and imagination, along with a deeper understanding of products and interpersonal communication, which helps develop software or products that better fit the market.
This unique value makes the composite skill set of "humanities or other disciplines combined with AI technology" a key focus for both students and employers. Chen Chaoqun, director of the Career Development Center at Tsinghua University, pointed out that progress in job placement for graduates from the humanities, social sciences, Marxist studies, and arts colleges is ahead of last year's pace.
