Four Western Counties in Nagchu Collaborate to Advance Tibetan Medicine Development, Shenzha County Tibetan Hospital Upgrades

Deep News04-04

In recent years, the Nagchu Municipal Health Commission has leveraged its departmental functions, using the coordinated development of the four western counties as a vehicle and the upgrade of the Shenzha County Tibetan Hospital as a platform. This has shifted the Tibetan medicine industry from operating in isolation to working collaboratively, achieving phased results in regional Tibetan medicine development.

Focusing on building collaborative mechanisms, two promotion meetings for the coordinated development of the four western counties have been held. These meetings studied and established mechanisms, ideas, and measures for jointly advancing Tibetan medicine development, resulting in the "Implementation Opinions on Coordinated Promotion of 'Comprehensive Tibetan Medicine Development'" for the four western counties of Nagchu. This has laid an organizational foundation for close cooperation in areas such as ensuring the supply of raw materials for Tibetan medicine, talent cultivation, establishment of production bases, and transforming drugs into products.

As the "main engine" for regional Tibetan medicine development, the Shenzha County Tibetan Hospital has integrated a total of 12.72 million yuan in health funds. It has upgraded and renovated over 1,600 square meters of its preparation room and invested nearly 800,000 yuan to purchase high-precision testing equipment, aiming to build a Tibetan medicine production base for the western region. An investment of 620,000 yuan completed the registration and filing of 64 types of Tibetan medicines and updated the preparation catalog. All filed Tibetan medicines are now covered by medical insurance reimbursement. Funding of 1.03 million yuan for the registration of the remaining 99 types of Tibetan medicines has been secured, with the goal of achieving a 100% registration rate.

In August 2024, the Shenzha County Tibetan Hospital successfully achieved the status of a Class II, Grade B Ethnic Hospital, becoming the first among the Tibetan hospitals in the four western counties to complete this upgrade. Furthermore, a comprehensive review of Tibetan medicine talent information has been completed, establishing a talent reserve pool. A total of 18 experts from the four counties have been selected for the expert database, and 26 individuals are in the reserve talent pool. Training courses for core Tibetan medicine technical personnel and rural Tibetan medicine technical backbone from the four western counties were held in Shenzha County, cumulatively training over 60 core personnel and specialized technicians.
