In the wampi fruit planting base of Longbei Village, Longjing Town, Qingyuan City, Guangdong, expansive orchards flourish, with clusters of golden, heart-shaped fruit weighing down the branches.
Farmers move through the groves, busy with picking, sorting, and packing, their work filled with the joy of a bountiful harvest.
Longbei Village is the core cultivation area for the 'Chicken Heart' wampi variety in Longjing Town, boasting over three decades of large-scale planting history.
In 2019, the village earned the title of a Guangdong provincial "One Village, One Product" specialized village for its locally produced Chicken Heart wampi.
Currently, the total wampi planting area across Longjing Town is approximately 3,300 acres, involving over 900 farming households, with this year's total output forecast to exceed 5,600 tons.
The Chicken Heart wampi cultivated in the town is named for its resemblance to a chicken's heart.
The fruit features a thin, golden-yellow skin, thick flesh, small seeds, abundant juice, and a pleasantly balanced sweet-sour flavor with a fragrant aftertaste.
Favorable weather conditions this year have led to excellent growth and high-quality fruit, resulting in a productive harvest.
According to reports, as part of a targeted rural revitalization assistance project plan for 2025, a state-owned enterprise invested 800,000 yuan in帮扶 funds to construct an agricultural product collection and storage center alongside a photovoltaic power generation project on existing orchard land in Longbei Village.
Once operational, the solar power installation is expected to generate approximately 50,000 yuan in annual income for the village collective.
"Previously, without a collection point, villagers' biggest worry was how to sell their agricultural products," said Huang Yanwen, Party Branch Secretary and Village Committee Director of Longbei Village.
He noted that Chicken Heart wampi is a crucial income source for many households, with the village's planting area exceeding 2,500 acres.
The new agricultural product collection and storage center has effectively addressed the difficulty of storing and collecting specialty products like the wampi.
Through a model combining "demonstration planting bases + collection/storage周转 + promotion/exhibition + extended sales chains," and bolstered by revenue from the photovoltaic project, the village collective economy is being steadily strengthened.
Longjing Town has identified Chicken Heart wampi as a key specialty industry for fostering local prosperity.
On the cultivation front, it regularly invites agricultural technical experts to provide training on orchard pruning and green pest control, guiding farmers towards standardized, ecological planting practices.
To overcome the short shelf-life of the fresh fruit, Longjing Town is collaborating with leading enterprises to develop a deep-processing industrial park.
This initiative aims to extend the industrial chain by producing a series of agricultural by-products such as dried wampi and wampi preserves.
