A former Federal Reserve chair nominee of ex-President Donald Trump, Kevin Warsh, has appeared in the latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents released by the U.S. government on Friday.
Warsh's name appears on a guest email list labeled "2010 St. Barts Christmas Activities," alongside Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and the disgraced director Brett Ratner, among others. Additionally, Warsh's name is listed among the attendees of a dinner hosted by British aristocrat William Astor.
The revelation coincided with the very day Trump nominated Warsh to lead the Fed. Given Trump's eagerness for significant interest rate cuts, the nomination was surprisingly conservative. Warsh has traditionally been cautious about inflation but has signaled support for rate cuts in recent months.
Warsh has long been involved in monetary policy, having been appointed as a Fed governor as early as 2006. However, his appearance in the Epstein-related documents is not entirely unexpected—his wife is billionaire heiress Jane Lauder, the granddaughter of Estee Lauder founder Estee Lauder and daughter of Republican donor Ronald Lauder. This connection placed Warsh within the wealthy social circles Epstein frequented.
Nonetheless, the coincidence of the Fed chair nomination and the document release on the same day is undoubtedly awkward. Prior to Friday's document release, Warsh's most significant controversy was his connection to Ronald Lauder—reports suggested Trump's interest in Greenland during his first term was inspired by Lauder, who holds business assets on the island.
Warsh may now be compelled to address a series of questions: How familiar was he with Epstein? What activities did he participate in on St. Barts during the 2010 Christmas period? There will also be external scrutiny over whether Trump nominated him because all three men moved in the same social circles and were acquainted.
