On December 20, it was reported that a man in Wuhan, Hubei Province, stole over 1,700 grams of gold worth approximately 1.7 million yuan from a jewelry store.

The theft occurred in the early hours of December 13 when the suspect, identified as Wei, broke into the store by drilling through a wall from an adjacent mobile phone repair shop. Surveillance footage showed a heavily disguised man entering the shop at 2:52 a.m. and leaving at 4:47 a.m.

Police investigation revealed that Wei, a repeat offender from Suizhou, had planned the robbery due to gambling debts exceeding one million yuan. He purchased tools such as a helmet, raincoat, gloves, an electric scooter, a grinder, and a flashlight in advance.

After stealing the gold, Wei buried most of it behind his family's ancestral grave and sold over 400 grams to repay debts. He has since been arrested and detained, with the case under further investigation.
