Anhui Achieves 2.26 GW Peak Valley-Filling Load, Boosting Renewable Energy Integration

During the Spring Festival holiday this year, Anhui's power grid faced significant challenges in peak regulation and renewable energy integration due to favorable weather conditions. To promote the efficient use of green electricity, the Anhui Energy Bureau and Anhui Electric Power Company organized a valley-filling power demand response initiative. This effort encouraged various entities to increase electricity consumption during midday periods of high renewable energy generation, effectively alleviating grid pressure. The maximum valley-filling load reached 2.26 GW, integrating 32.3167 GWh of renewable energy. Participants are expected to receive price compensation totaling 48 million yuan.

Anhui fully leveraged the collective power of residential users by launching the "Wanmei Charging" campaign, a nationwide first encouraging residents to charge their new energy vehicles with green electricity. Participants received a reward of 1.5 yuan per kWh, attracting 463,900 household charging pile users. The maximum response load from residents reached 170 MW, effectively stimulating public involvement in grid regulation.

At the same time, virtual power plants played a key role by aggregating resources. A total of 18 virtual power plants across the province pooled adjustable loads from industrial and commercial users, energy storage systems, and building air conditioning units. Using platform-based unified control technology, these resources precisely increased electricity consumption, achieving a maximum valley-filling load of 1.15 GW and demonstrating the capability of virtual power plants to support renewable energy integration.

Vehicle-grid interaction also provided bidirectional regulation during the holiday. Anhui collaborated with 20 charging and battery-swapping facility operators, who offered incentives such as coupons and service fee reductions to encourage new energy vehicle owners to charge during midday low-demand periods. The maximum charging load reached 130 MW, creating a win-win situation where vehicle owners benefited from lower costs and the grid gained flexibility.

Additionally, industrial and commercial users played an active supporting role. A total of 380 enterprises were encouraged to maintain continuous production during the holiday and voluntarily increase electricity loads, such as air conditioning usage. This contributed an additional 1.04 GW of load, strongly supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy throughout the Spring Festival period.
