Hong Kong Leader Highlights Broader Value of Talent Beyond Economic Output Measures

Deep News09-16

Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee, stated on Wednesday that the economic contributions of imported talent cannot be accurately quantified through gross domestic product (GDP) figures alone, as these individuals are deployed across various sectors and fields, with their impact reflected in the overall optimization and dynamism of the economic structure.

Lee emphasized that to sustain the city's GDP growth over the next decade, a multi-pronged approach is necessary to implement initiatives outlined in the Policy Address and the Five-Year Plan. Among these, sufficient resources are a critical pillar, and talent stands out as a core resource. Given the challenges of an aging local population and ongoing economic transformation, the government must attract highly skilled professionals with recognized credentials and experience to bridge gaps in the local training pipeline, thereby accelerating development in emerging sectors such as technology and innovation, and fueling long-term economic vitality.
