On the shores of the South China Sea, on the Lian'an Peninsula, young people from different countries move among modern teaching buildings.
This is the Hainan Lingshui Lian'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone, which is open to the world.
On October 22, the pilot zone welcomed a group of special "campus experience officers."
Nineteen journalists from 11 mainstream media outlets in eight Southeast Asian countries entered the campus, sat in the same class as ASEAN students, and recorded China's educational opening-up with their words and cameras.
As the only one of Hainan Free Trade Port's 13 key parks with educational opening-up as its core mission, the Lingshui Lian'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone has, in line with the needs of Hainan Free Trade Port construction, established and improved internationally competitive education opening-up policies and systems, introduced well-known domestic and foreign universities to carry out Sino-foreign cooperative education and independent foreign-run education, and built a new benchmark for China's educational opening-up and development as well as a centralized display window for mutual learning and exchange between Chinese and foreign education.
At present, the pilot zone has signed agreements to introduce 30 well-known domestic and foreign universities, with a total of more than 10,000 teachers and students.
The "Strolling Through China · Vibrant Hainan" joint interview team of Chinese and foreign media entered this "education innovation city." The ASEAN journalist group attended a class together with international students and exchanged with them after class, asking about their study experiences.
The two sides experienced calligraphy and rubbing together, feeling the charm of cultural exchange through each stroke and each print.
During the conversations, the journalists gained a deeper understanding of the pilot zone's innovative school-running model of "large sharing plus small colleges" and the "five mutual and one shared" approach: mutual learning between China and foreign countries, mutual integration of disciplines, mutual connection between arts and sciences, mutual course selection, mutual credit recognition, and shared management.
The journalists said this visit further narrowed the distance between Chinese and ASEAN youth and created new opportunities for the two sides to enhance understanding and exchange and learn from each other.
In recent years, the pilot zone has continued to deepen exchanges and cooperation with universities, educational institutions, and related enterprises in ASEAN countries, making positive progress in cooperative education, talent cultivation, education and training, and other fields.
International students from Malaysia, Madagascar, Myanmar, Mongolia, and other countries participated in the exchange activity.
During the event, the international students had in-depth exchanges with ASEAN media journalists and shared their feelings about studying and living in Hainan.
Chinese and foreign youth enhanced understanding through interaction, injecting new vitality into deepening educational exchanges between China and ASEAN.
Dixia, an international student from Madagascar at Beijing Language and Culture University: I may continue to pursue a master's degree. After obtaining it, I may work in a field related to my major, international economics and trade. I want to continue developing my career along this path, and perhaps become, or continue to build, the bridge that already exists between China and Madagascar.
Soe Yee Mon, a journalist from Myanmar National Radio and Television: Today, visiting the international education and innovation pilot project, I think it is very good. I met a group of foreign students. They are very active and smart. So I interviewed them. They talked about their cultural experiences in Hainan and their feelings about the Chinese language. They like Hainan and their school. There are many Myanmar students studying in China. They are in such a cultural and educational center, which is a link between Myanmar and China. This is really very good for Myanmar.
