Apple's iOS 27 to Offer AI Model Selection, Enabling Users to Switch Between Services Like Google or Anthropic

Deep News03:21

Media reported on Tuesday that Apple Inc. plans to allow users to select from third-party artificial intelligence models in the iOS 27 system for tasks such as text and image generation. This means ChatGPT's exclusive status on Apple devices will come to an end.

According to informed sources, this change will be introduced alongside the releases of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 this autumn. Apple refers to this feature within the system as "Extensions." Users will be able to choose their preferred AI service to power Apple Intelligence features through the Settings application.

Once the feature is launched, users can select from AI model providers that are installed and offer compatibility via the App Store. To date, Apple has conducted internal integration tests with at least Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude.

Apple is actively working to narrow the gap with Google and Microsoft in the field of artificial intelligence, as the latter two have moved more quickly in launching AI features. Google's Gemini is expected to provide technical support for a new version of Siri set to be introduced this year. Apple plans to announce more AI-related details at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Analysts point out that this strategic shift indicates that Apple is no longer focused on becoming the strongest AI model developer. Instead, the company aims to position Siri as the primary gateway for various AI services to enter consumers' lives, thereby generating revenue shares from third-party AI subscription services through the App Store.
