During the 2026 Intellectual Property Publicity Week, cities across Guangdong concentrated on the theme of strengthening intellectual property protection in emerging sectors to accelerate the development of new quality productive forces. Efforts were directed towards fostering regional brands, enhancing the protection of geographical indications, and improving the quality of specialty industries. These initiatives aim to create a favorable intellectual property environment, supporting the construction of a high-level intellectual property powerhouse and contributing to Guangdong's high-quality development.
On April 23, the "IP Protection Sails the Bay Area" series of exchange activities, featuring the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) engaging with the Greater Bay Area, was held in Foshan City. The inaugural event involved training and discussions on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) system and global patent protection. Over 200 participants, including domestic and international IP experts, corporate representatives, lawyers, and patent and trademark agents, gathered for the occasion. For the first time, representatives from WIPO headquarters visited Foshan, joining top IP experts from regions such as Europe, America, and Southeast Asia. Together, they provided a "masterclass" on intellectual property for enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, facilitating their global expansion and competition, and establishing a high-level platform for face-to-face interaction with world-class specialists.
On April 20, the 2026 Zhuhai University Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation Matchmaking Event, coupled with the launch of the Intellectual Property Publicity Week, took place at the Beijing Institute of Technology (Zhuhai). The event featured a signing ceremony for the first batch of university technology transfer projects in Zhuhai for 2026. Six high-quality industry-university collaboration projects in sectors including drones, electronic information, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, agricultural production, and meteorological monitoring were signed. The transfer methods encompassed general licensing, horizontal research projects, and "use first, transfer later" models, promoting the transition of high-value patents from the laboratory to the production line. The event also released the Top Ten Intellectual Property Events in Zhuhai for 2025, comprehensively showcasing the city's breakthroughs in areas such as innovation cluster development, industrial patent operation, foreign-related patent rights protection, intellectual property finance, coordinated judicial and administrative protection, and customs and copyright enforcement.
In Huizhou City, relevant departments and counties (districts) organized 36 promotional activities centered on six key areas: protection of key and emerging industries, corporate global expansion and foreign risk prevention, judicial protection and legal system development, and the cultivation and application of high-value IP. The city launched six enterprise-focused intellectual property service initiatives: "Strengthening Foundations and Building Capacity," "Accelerating Transformation," "Financial Support," "Brand Value Addition," "Rights Protection and Assistance," and "Overseas Escort." To ensure effective implementation of these services, the Huizhou Market Supervision Administration (Intellectual Property Office) established three specialized teams—IP liaisons, service specialists, and special commissioners—to provide companies with close, convenient, and professional support.
Heyuan City highlighted its theme, "Intellectual Property Protects Innovation, Geographical Indications Revitalize Vitality," to fully demonstrate its achievements in building a strong IP city and the distinctive features of its geographical indication products, empowering the rise of green industries and rural revitalization. A ceremony was held to appoint Geographical Indication Stations, with the Heyuan Local Products Museum and the Longchuan County Camellia Oil Industry Association receiving plaques, establishing important platforms for displaying and promoting GI products. Several producers of geographical indication products signed agreements to join the Shen-He Consumer Assistance Platform.
In Jieyang City, an intellectual property expert database was established, and a credit granting ceremony was held for enterprises filing patent-intensive product records, deepening the empowerment of intellectual property finance.
