Multiple Firms Grant Employees a Day Off for World Cup Final

Several companies have announced they will be granting employees time off on Monday to watch the FIFA World Cup final.

The final match is set to take place, and companies including NetEase, adidas, and 37 Interactive Entertainment have declared that employees will have the day off on the day of the final, July 20th.

On July 16th, the official adidas football social media account posted a screenshot of an internal email. The email stated, "To allow every colleague to fully enjoy the World Cup final, aside from essential work meeting arrangements, the company has decided to provide all office employees with a special one-day holiday on July 20th (next Monday). Let's all focus on the green pitch and cheer for the ultimate showdown between Spain and Argentina at 3 AM on July 20th." Subsequently, adidas Sports (China) Co., Ltd. reposted the message with the caption, "If you're not coming to work, then I'm not either."

On the same day, Lingxi Interactive announced that all staff would have the morning off on Monday.

On July 15th, NetEase announced that all its employees would have a half-day off on the morning of Monday, July 20th, to fully enjoy the final night. 37 Interactive Entertainment also posted, announcing a half-day holiday for all staff next Monday for the World Cup final.

While many might be envious of these company-specific viewing holidays, those who didn't get one need not be too disappointed. The second half of the year still holds two major national holidays to look forward to: the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day.

The Mid-Autumn Festival holiday will be from Friday, September 25th, to Sunday, September 27th, totaling three days off.

The National Day holiday will run from Thursday, October 1st, to Wednesday, October 7th, with a total of seven days off after work schedule adjustments. Employees will need to work on Sunday, September 20th, and Saturday, October 10th.

Interestingly, the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays are very close together. By taking three days of annual leave from September 28th to 30th, one can enjoy a continuous 13-day super-long holiday, perfect for arranging long-distance travel or vacations.

Finally, it's important to remember your leave entitlements. According to Article 51 of the Labor Law of the People's Republic of China, employers shall pay wages to workers during statutory holidays, marriage or funeral leave, and periods when they participate in social activities in accordance with the law.

According to Article 44 of the same law, if workers are required to work on rest days and no compensatory time off can be arranged, the employer shall pay no less than 200% of the normal wage. If workers are required to work on statutory holidays, the employer shall pay no less than 300% of the normal wage.
