Vaccine stocks tumbled in morning trading, with Moderna sliding over 8% and BioNTech SE sliding nearly 7%.
Last week, Israel approved a fourth dose Pfizer(NYSE:PFE) and BioNTech's(NASDAQ:BNTX) vaccine, a second booster, for people who are immune-compromised and the elderly living in care homes.
"We now have a new layer of defense," Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said in a news conference, adding that Israel's top government medical official had signed off on the latest move.
"Israel will once again be pioneering the global vaccination effort," Bennett said.
