Majority of A-Shares Decline as Shanghai Index Edges Up

China's A-share market opened lower on the 11th, with the three major indices showing divergent trends throughout the session. The Shanghai Composite Index managed to close with modest gains. According to Wind data, the Shanghai Composite Index rose by 0.09% at the close, while the Shenzhen Component Index fell by 0.35% and the ChiNext Index declined by 1.08%.

Trading volume across the market reached 2.00 trillion yuan, with over 3,200 stocks ending the day in negative territory.

Sector performance varied significantly. Coal-related stocks became active in the afternoon session, while oil and gas shares experienced volatile gains. The precious metals sector saw a rebound during trading hours. Fiberglass, chemicals, rare earths, and lithium battery sectors were among the top performers. In contrast, media and film sectors faced collective declines, with short drama games, tourism, photovoltaic, and CPO concept stocks leading the losses.
