Anthropic reported increased error rates for its Claude AI model on Monday. This occurred as the application maintained its position as the number one free application on Apple's App Store, following a conflict with the U.S. Department of Defense on Friday. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the Pentagon would designate the company as a "supply chain risk."
The status page for Anthropic's Claude indicated a "performance degradation" for its latest model, Claude Opus 4.6, which was released last month. In an update at 9:42 AM Eastern Time, the page confirmed the issue and stated that a fix was being implemented.
The popularity of the AI chatbot surged after the dispute with the Defense Department concerning restrictions on the government agency's use of Anthropic's technology.
Last Friday, President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. government agencies to "immediately cease" using Anthropic's technology. Shortly thereafter, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on X that the Pentagon would list the company as a "supply chain risk to national security."
