Mermaid Subsea Services (UK) has renewed the contract for the underwater support vessel Island Valiant, further strengthening its position in the North Sea decommissioning market. Over the past three years, the vessel has supported Mermaid's operations in the region, including well plugging and abandonment, as well as inspection, repair, and maintenance activities.

The new agreement extends the vessel's operational commitment in the North Sea basin by an additional 12 months, with expectations of increased activity in the area. Mermaid, which began operating in the UK market in 2021, stated that it has accumulated significant expertise and experience in the subsea decommissioning sector over the past five years.

Scott Cormack, Regional Director of Mermaid Subsea Services (UK), commented, "The North Sea decommissioning market is at a critical juncture, with activity levels set to rise progressively over the coming months and years. The knowledge and experience we have built over the past five years position us as a leading service provider in the region."

"By committing to another 12 months of operations in the basin, we will continue to offer our clients specialized services in well decommissioning and asset integrity, contributing to safe, efficient, and profitable operations."

The company reported that in 2025, it completed wellhead cutting operations for 10 wells and provided one well intervention service for the Anasuria FPSO. The previous year, 2024, was a record period for the company, with 30 well plugging and abandonment operations completed—the highest number of vessel-based well decommissioning activities ever recorded in the basin in a single year.

Mermaid also concluded a rapid subsea recovery project by the end of 2025, involving casing and conductor cutting, seabed excavation, structure recovery, and waste management operations.
