The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against Elon Musk's xAI, alleging that the company's power supply for data centers in Tennessee and Mississippi poses health risks to local residents. The lawsuit claims that Musk's artificial intelligence company and its subsidiary, MZX Tech, are operating gas turbines without a permit at a data center in Southaven, Mississippi, in violation of the Clean Air Act. It further alleges that pollutants and harmful chemicals emitted by these turbines are linked to increased rates of asthma, respiratory illnesses, heart disease, and certain types of cancer. Abre' Conner, Director of the NAACP's Environmental and Climate Justice Program, stated, "A data center should not be a potential death sentence for community health." xAI did not respond to requests for comment.
