According to satellite data firm Earth-i, two major copper smelters in Iran appear to have ceased operations. The firm tracks related activities based on thermal signals, exhaust emissions, inventory levels, and vehicle movement.

Earth-i stated via email on Tuesday that Iran's largest copper smelter, Sar Chesmeh, has been shut down since March 28.

The smelter processes ore from the largest copper mine in the Middle East and has an annual production capacity exceeding 250,000 tonnes.

Earth-i also reported that another state-owned smelter, Khatoon Abad, halted operations over the past weekend. This facility has an annual copper production capacity of approximately 120,000 tonnes.

Iran possesses substantial reserves of copper and zinc. However, due to Western sanctions, its metal trade is not fully reflected in official statistics.
