The first 4000 standard cubic meters per hour electrolyzed water hydrogen gas-liquid separation and purification unit, jointly developed by Baoji Machinery, Shenzhen New Energy Research Institute, Dushanzi Petrochemical, and Xinjiang Huangiu Engineering Company for PetroChina Company Limited, has entered the on-site assembly phase in Xinjiang. This will be followed by formal demonstration applications.
This milestone signifies a critical step for PetroChina in the research, development, and manufacturing of large-scale core equipment for green hydrogen production. It provides significant equipment support for the company's green and low-carbon transition targets outlined in its 15th Five-Year Plan and for the scaled development of the hydrogen energy industry.
The gas-liquid separation unit for water electrolysis efficiently performs the separation, washing, and cooling of hydrogen, oxygen, and alkali liquor output from the electrolyzer, enabling high-efficiency alkali recovery and initial gas purification. The purification unit, designed to be used with a gas-liquid separation unit of the same specification, employs advanced temperature swing adsorption and regeneration purification processes to significantly enhance hydrogen purity, achieving a level of up to 99.999%.
Electrolyzed water hydrogen production equipment includes the electrolyzer, gas-liquid separation and purification units, DC power supply, and control systems. Presently, Baoji Machinery possesses the design and manufacturing capability for all major components of such systems. A 1200 standard cubic meters per hour electrolyzer successfully developed in 2023 is already in industrial application in Xinjiang with positive operational results. The newly developed 4000 standard cubic meters per hour unit is a high-end piece of equipment intended for large-scale integrated wind-solar-hydrogen-storage projects, large-scale industrial decarbonization, cross-regional hydrogen storage and transportation, and high-end fuel cell applications. It features high compatibility with multiple processes and a high level of intelligence.
The successful progression of this unit further enriches and improves the product portfolio within PetroChina's hydrogen energy equipment industry chain. It represents a concrete practice in accelerating the transformation of equipment enterprises from supplying "core components" to providing "systematic solutions." This initiative is set to vigorously promote the industrialization and commercialization of green hydrogen, contributing to the company's energy structure transformation and its green, low-carbon development goals.
