Shanghai Airport Logistics Launches Online Application for "Ramp Direct Pickup" Service

Deep News04-16

Starting April 15, the "Ramp Direct Pickup" service offered by Shanghai Airport Logistics has introduced an online application feature through the "Airway Pass" platform, Shanghai's air logistics public information system. This development has reduced the processing time from the previous seven business days for offline applications to just three business days. At 12:00 on the same day, through close coordination between the airport, airlines, customs, and cargo terminals, the first batch of precision instrument goods processed via the new online system were transported directly from the aircraft parking area to the consignee company immediately upon landing.

The "Ramp Direct Pickup" service was introduced by Shanghai Airport to provide safer and more efficient transportation for high-value special cargo. After consignees complete advance customs declaration for inbound goods, the shipments are loaded onto trucks right after being unloaded from the aircraft. Following verification of release information and completion of pickup procedures, the goods can be transported directly from the ramp to the enterprise. The service has been well-received by customers, with over 150 transactions completed last year.

Prior to the launch of the online application feature, the service relied on offline declarations and manual approvals. The process became cumbersome when key details such as flight numbers or pickup vehicle license plates needed amendments, requiring resubmission for transport safety compliance. To address this, the logistics subsidiary of Shanghai Airport proactively responded to client needs by collaborating with airport customs, airport police, airlines, cargo terminals, and freight forwarders to enhance data connectivity. These efforts led to the integration of the "Ramp Direct Pickup" online application feature into the "Airway Pass" platform.

Clients can now log into the "Airway Pass" website or app to submit necessary information for the service. The system automatically generates forms, while regulatory and operational departments conduct synchronized reviews according to established procedures. Approval status is visible in real-time, with full process traceability, eliminating issues like redundant data entry and inconsistent form formats, thereby significantly improving operational efficiency.

The "Airway Pass" platform is an online air logistics service portal initiated by Shanghai Airport in partnership with Shanghai Customs, the East China Regional Administration of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, relevant Shanghai municipal government departments, airport police, airlines, and freight forwarders. It consolidates production and operational data across the entire supply chain and offers three core functions: one-stop service, unified tracking, and integrated management. The addition of the "Ramp Direct Pickup" service is expected to further help companies reduce customs clearance and logistics costs while enhancing the service capabilities of Shanghai's air cargo hub.
