A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll concluded on Monday indicates that U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating continues to hover near the lowest levels of his political career, with a majority of Americans stating they expect gasoline prices to keep rising amid the context of the Iran war.
Approximately 35% of respondents expressed approval of Trump's performance in the White House, matching the level from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in mid-May.
This figure is only slightly above the lowest approval rating of his current term—34% recorded in an April poll—and is also close to the record low of 33% set in December 2017 during his first term.
In recent months, Trump has faced widespread dissatisfaction over his decision to go to war with Iran, a move that triggered a sharp surge in gasoline prices.
Although pump prices have moderated somewhat in recent weeks as markets bet on a resolution to the Iran conflict, the six-day survey reveals that about 59% of respondents anticipate U.S. gasoline prices will climb further over the next year, while only 17% believe prices will improve.
The remaining respondents were uncertain or expected prices to remain unchanged.
