According to Woofun AI, the world's largest publicly traded cryptocurrency holding company, MicroStrategy (MSTR.US), is approaching a critical technical turning point. Its 50-day moving average is poised to cross above its 200-day moving average, forming a "golden cross." This bullish signal follows a similar pattern in Bitcoin (BTC) that occurred several weeks ago.
For MSTR, which holds a Bitcoin reserve valued at $69.81 billion, this pattern, if confirmed, could draw market attention as early as Monday.
Tracing MSTR's stock trajectory since it began its large-scale BTC asset allocation in August 2020, golden cross signals have been accompanied by astonishing capital appreciation. At the first golden cross on September 15, 2020, the stock price stood at $15.57, surging to $127.29 by February 2021 — a gain of 717%. Although a death cross appeared in January 2022, the stock price of $46.83 was still triple the level at the first golden cross. At the second golden cross on March 2, 2023, the stock price was $25.29, subsequently reaching a peak of $473.83 in November 2024 — a cumulative gain of 1,774%. Even when a death cross occurred in October 2025, the stock price of $328.40 still represented a 1,199% premium over the golden cross starting point.
However, data compiled by Woofun AI reveals that the reliability of technical signals is significantly mixed. According to CoinDesk statistics, since 1999, MSTR has experienced 19 golden crosses, with only 11 maintaining gains after three months and 10 still rising after twelve months. The long-term accuracy rate is merely 50%, and the average 12-month return is as low as 3.3%. In extreme cases, stock prices plummeted 61% following golden crosses in 2001 and 2007.
By comparison, BTC has shown stronger recent performance. Since confirming a golden cross on September 8, BTC's price has risen nearly 5% to $82,000, extending its rebound from a low below $60,000 in July and surging above $87,000 earlier this month.
Chart technical details show that in the candlestick chart since February 2025, the yellow line representing the 50-day moving average is approaching the green line representing the 200-day moving average, signaling that a golden cross is about to form. Building on the prior bullish signal of a trendline breakout, the potential golden cross further suggests upside potential for the stock price.
However, given the low historical success rate and high volatility, market participants need to be wary of the risk that the technical signal may fail. Monday's price action will be a key moment to validate this hypothesis.
