Facing surging demand for its AI models, Anthropic is building a team to develop its own specialized artificial intelligence chips. According to recent job postings and company statements, the AI startup is hiring engineers to design custom chips for its Claude large language model.

An Anthropic spokesperson confirmed that the company is establishing an internal chip research and development team to create custom chips for Claude, marking the first public confirmation of this initiative. The spokesperson added that Anthropic will pursue a hardware-model co-design approach, enabling Claude to operate faster and more efficiently "at the scale customers require."

The spokesperson noted that Anthropic will adopt a "multi-chip strategy," with hardware from AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD remaining central to the AI company's computing expansion. A recently posted job listing reveals the company's plans for a "custom chip team," seeking engineers proficient in multiple areas of semiconductor design and verification.

The engineering position offers a salary range of $320,000 to $485,000 and requires candidates to demonstrate proven experience in "hands-on completion of semiconductor design and delivery to mass production."
