A variety of unique agricultural products, including muskmelons with a sweetness level of 19.5 degrees, palm-sized scallops, small apples weighing over 20 grams per fruit, and white strawberries, have recently gained attention. These innovative creations are the result of advancements in agricultural science and technology. On February 11, during the annual work conference of the Liaoning Innovation Team under the Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System, 15 specialized teams—focusing on areas such as facility vegetables, rice, peanuts, and shrimp and crabs—presented their latest achievements, with several attracting immediate interest.
High-quality development in the agricultural sector relies heavily on key technological support. Over the past year, the innovation teams have concentrated on overcoming industry bottlenecks by tackling critical technologies across various fields. They have successfully addressed 105 core technical challenges and received 13 scientific and technological achievement awards. Notably, the corn team developed a haploid breeding technology system achieving a haploid induction rate of 15.6% and a line formation rate of 70%, reaching advanced international standards. The shrimp and crab team established a new generation of disease-resistant breeding populations, improving disease resistance by 10%, and applied for a new crab variety named "Guanghe No. 2." The fruit tree team cultivated China’s first independently developed grape variety specifically for juice production.
In addition, the 15 teams have integrated 84 comprehensive technical models tailored to practical agricultural production needs, providing effective solutions for the entire agricultural industry chain. Among these, the rice team’s "High-Quality, High-Yield, and Efficient Production Technology for Tasty Japonica Rice Across All Stages" was selected as a key promoted technology by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Integrated technologies from the facility vegetable, corn, and peanut teams were also chosen as key provincial-level technologies. The fruit tree team’s integrated drone-based precision control technology for apple pests and diseases achieved a control effectiveness of over 90% and has been widely adopted across apple-growing regions in the province.
"Agricultural technological innovation holds great promise," said Liu Weisheng, chief expert of the fruit tree team. "For instance, a new pear variety we developed can mature in mid-to-late July, capturing the market with its unique timing and showing strong potential for widespread adoption. Another example is our cavity-applied medium nutrient bar technology, which can increase fruit weight by 12 percentage points."
A representative from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs emphasized that Liaoning has actively aligned with the National Modern Agricultural Industry Technology System, breaking down barriers between departments, regions, and disciplines to establish a collaborative innovation framework. This effort has yielded significant results in technology transfer, industrial empowerment, and targeted services. This year, the Liaoning Innovation Team will continue to focus on ensuring stable and safe supplies of grain and important agricultural products, enhancing quality and efficiency across the entire industry chain, promoting green and efficient agricultural development, and increasing farmers' incomes. The team will strengthen collaborative research to meet industrial demands and fully support the province’s goal of building multibillion-yuan industrial clusters and billion-yuan specialty industries.
