On March 30, Agricultural Bank of China held its 2025 annual results conference. Vice President Lin Li stated that the key differentiator for commercial banks over the next 2-3 years will be their risk management capabilities. ABC is committed to effective risk control with a diligent and pragmatic approach, maintaining overall stability in asset quality.
Lin Li noted that while products, services, and even AI may become standardized in the future, differences in risk management will persist, making it essential to excel in this area. ABC consistently prioritizes risk prevention as a core principle of financial operations, focusing on five key areas: prudent and steady operations, systematic thinking, quality and efficiency in development, problem-oriented approaches, and bottom-line thinking.
Lin Li emphasized that in the next phase, ABC will maintain a cautious and stable risk appetite, persist in doing what is challenging yet right, and continue strengthening risk prevention efforts. First, the bank will improve the risk prevention system for inclusive retail loans by enhancing control mechanisms, strengthening the digital risk control center, and accelerating the development of an intelligent disposal platform. While inclusive retail loans are characterized by their small size, dispersion, and large volume, ABC will ensure they remain "well-groomed" rather than "disheveled." Second, ABC will enhance risk control in key sectors, avoiding abrupt loan withdrawals, pressure, or cuts in the real estate sector while increasing support for high-quality projects. In local government debt, the bank will adhere to the red line of not adding hidden debt. Third, the bank will advance the optimization of its credit structure by reducing loans to outdated capacity and inefficient clients, managing risks from emerging overcapacity, and continuously improving the quality and composition of its credit portfolio.
